Barro's Manufacturing Library

A five-week solo project for Barro de Gast, creating a working foundation for a growing collection of 200+ manufacturing objects.

A clearer way to search, browse, and understand manufacturing products

The challenge

Barro's physical collection is used to explain manufacturing processes, materials, mechanisms, and technologies. The digital library needed to make those connections discoverable while remaining easy for the client to grow and maintain.

What I built

I designed and coded a searchable product catalogue backed by Airtable. A flexible tag structure powers filtering and automatically surfaces related products, while product pages can adapt to the information available - including optional 3D scans. Filter state is retained in the URL so a view can be shared or revisited.

Product detail logic

A single adaptable product template handles the different information available for each object: imagery, dimensions, descriptions, optional 3D files, and related products generated from shared tags.

From prototype to working catalogue

I moved from Figma wireframes into a coded prototype so I could test real search, filtering, and product-detail behaviour. The build pairs an Airtable product and tag database with a lightweight update workflow, making it practical for the client to expand the library without rebuilding pages by hand.

Library structure

Database, tagging, and category views support a library that is easier to maintain and explore.

Testing and handover

I tested the prototype with five general users and two product-design peers, alongside edge-case and accessibility checks. The main browsing tasks were successful; the handover documented the remaining work around image alt text, large catalogues, and 3D-scan discoverability.
